“Save Target As” in Firefox

People accustomed to using the Internet Explorer web browser may find that one of their favorite features seems to be missing in Firefox: “Save Target As.”

While browsing, if you come across a web link to a file such as a Word document, PDF or executable, in Internet Explorer you can download the file to disk without having to open it in your browser.  To do this, you right-click on the link, then select “Save Target As” from the popup menu.  But that function seems to be missing in Firefox.

Don’t worry, it’s not missing, it just has a different name: “Save Link As”.  Right-click on the link, then select “Save Link As” from the popup menu.

Note that if the link is not a direct link to the file (such as www.win-pc.com/file.pdf) but rather it’s a redirect link (such as www.win-pc.com/php?=getfile.pdf) you may have to click the link to download the file because “Save Link As” will save the redirect file, and not the target file that you really want.
